Wow what a way to celebrate Diwali!
Whitehouse Primary have enjoyed the most amazing day celebrating the Festival of Light. We were greeted by beautiful rangoli patterns on the entrance to school and beautiful flowers and decorations in our school hall. All the staff were dressed in the most beautiful sari’s and traditional dresses – thank you so much for loaning us these amazing outfits.
The celebration assembly started with a display of traditional dances with the children dressed in the most amazing outfits, headdresses and jewellery. We were extremely proud of them – their dancing was absolutely fabulous.
Next came a surprise for Mrs Kelly where she was honoured to take part in the ceremony and cut the most beautiful cake that had been made especially for Whitehouse Primary school.
Mrs Sowjanya Miruddodi gave a wonderful speech inspiring the children and explaining why Diwali is celebrated and the meaning behind it.
The assembly was then followed by a fun activities such as Bollywood dancing, creating rangoli patterns, making diya lamps out of clay, making samosas and traditional sweets, designing and having henna patterns on their hands.
In the afternoon, Mrs Kelly and Mrs Prudence delivered 400 samosas to all the children and staff for an afternoon treat, kindly baked and delivered by our wonderful parents. They were absolutely delicious!
We are so grateful to all our parents that supported our celebrations and helped make it a huge success. We appreciate all your kindness in lending outfits, time taken to support the children with their dancing, to decorate the school and support all our workshops and activities throughout the day.
This was a true whole community celebration.
Thank you and Happy Diwali!
