A Fab-u-lous achievement for our Year 5/6 girls at the Dancing Schools UK Buckinghamshire Heats!

This year, Whitehouse Primary entered into Dancing Schools UK – a Ballroom and Latin competition that we have never entered before. Our team of 12 girls started working incredibly hard in November 2019 to learn two Ballroom and Latin dances – The Waltz and the Cha Cha. Over the course of the year, they have had to learn some very tricky steps and not just remember them, but perform them with the correct technique.

Each week in their club they have worked very hard with Mrs Bean and Miss Young to produce the best performance possible. They have had to think about their timing, their footwork, their heads, their arms and of course, their smiles. It’s a lot to remember but the girls have been brilliant. The team have had to be super resilient as they have been put through their paces each week, repeating sections again and again to get the best out of them. Their attitudes have been incredible and everyone was extremely proud of them even before we got to the competition.

After weeks of practise as well as two weeks of 8am rehearsals, it was time for the competition. On Saturday 25th January the team competed against 4 other teams in the Year 5/6 category. They were extremely nervous and had to dance first in their section. The girls absolutely blew us away with their performance. Wow! We couldn’t have asked for anything more from them.

We were already so happy with the performance that the girls had given but the best was yet to come! Whitehouse Primary were called back onto the stage after being informed that we had made it into the Top 3 teams for our section! We waited nervously to find out that we had won 2nd Place in the Year 5/6 category and everyone was beaming from ear to ear. To top it all off, our placing meant that the team has qualified for the finals in July which are going to be held at The Derngate Theatre in Northampton. There will even be a professional from Strictly Come Dancing on the judging panel – how exciting.

Mrs Bean and Miss Young have absolutely loved working with this amazing group of girls and can’t wait to get to work perfecting the routines even further for the Finals! This event marks the first trophy earned by Whitehouse Primary for dancing and we couldn’t be any prouder.

Thank you to all of the girls, staff and parents for your amazing support and dedication.
