Welcome to Year 2
A very warm welcome to Year 2 from Miss Hannah Kindness (2HK), Miss Rebecca Dormer (2RD) and Mrs Michelle Thorne (2MT). We are delighted to welcome our children and families to another exciting year of learning, discovery and growth.
Year 2 is a particularly important year as it marks the final stage of Key Stage 1 and prepares children for their transition into Key Stage 2. Throughout the year, we will support children to become increasingly independent, resilient and reflective learners, while nurturing their confidence and enthusiasm for learning.
At Whitehouse Primary School, our ethos is centred on ensuring every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their very best. In Year 2, we encourage children to demonstrate our school values every day through their learning, relationships and contributions to the school community. As some of the oldest children in Key Stage 1, Year 2 pupils have the opportunity to be positive role models for younger children, showing kindness, responsibility and respect in all that they do.
Our rich and engaging curriculum is designed to spark curiosity and foster a love of learning. Through exciting Learning Expeditions and hands-on experiences, children will continue to develop essential skills across all areas of the curriculum. We place a strong emphasis on reading, writing and mathematics, helping children to build secure foundations while encouraging them to think critically, solve problems and communicate their ideas with confidence.
Alongside academic learning, we are passionate about developing children's character. We want our Year 2 pupils to leave Key Stage 1 as confident individuals who are willing to challenge themselves, show perseverance when learning becomes difficult and demonstrate empathy and respect towards others. Through collaborative learning opportunities, leadership responsibilities and meaningful discussions, children will develop the personal qualities that will help them flourish both in school and beyond.
This year promises to be filled with exciting opportunities, memorable experiences and lots of learning. We are looking forward to working closely with our children and families and are excited to see all that our Year 2 pupils will achieve.
Miss Hannah Kindness is the Year 2 Lead, and Miss Laura Quinn is the Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Key Stage 1.
