Welcome To Year 2

A very big welcome from Miss Weatherley, Miss Turner and Miss Sensoy.

A big welcome to Year 2 from Miss Weatherley, Miss Turner and Miss Sensoy! We have a very exciting term ahead of us with a focus on ‘Dinosaur Planet’ followed by our topic ‘Street Detectives’.

Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 and our aim is for all our Year 2 children to be independent, inquisitive and confident learners, so they are well prepared for the move to Key Stage 2.

Home learning focuses mainly on reading, spelling and maths with a booklet covering core skills for the term. We would like children to be reading at home at least three times a week and the children will be encouraged to change their books in the mornings. We would also encourage sharing books with the children as well as exploring a range a texts, such as comics, signs, lists, recipes etc. The spellings will be given out weekly and these will focus on the key sounds for that week. Please speak to us if you have any questions regarding home learning.

As well as spelling and reading, we would encourage children to practise their number skills, for example recognising numbers to 100, counting in 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s and recalling number addition and subtraction number facts.
