Welcome To Year 2
A very big welcome from Mrs Gilham & Mrs Nuttall.
A big welcome to Year 2 from Mrs Gilham and Mrs Nuttall! We have a very exciting term ahead of us with a focus on Superheroes followed by our topic ‘Memory Box’ where we will be stepping back in time and hopefully taking a trip to the Milton Keynes Museum.
Year 2 is the final year of Key Stage 1 and our aim is for all our Year 2 children to be independent, inquisitive and confident learners, so they are well prepared for the move to Key Stage 2.
At Whitehouse School we believe in the power of play and Year 2 children will continue to have many opportunities to construct, craft, create and role-play independently.
Home learning focuses mainly on weekly reading and spelling with a maths booklet covering core skills for the term. There will be occasional extra learning challenges to support in-class learning, or just for fun! We encourage our children to be independent, creative and to enjoy their learning experiences both in school and at home. Books are changed by the teacher once or twice a week. Spellings are given out on a Thursday or Friday and are tested on the following Thursday. Please speak to us if you have any questions regarding home learning.
Children in Year 2 will be undertaking statutory testing in May next year and we will hold a parent information evening after Christmas to explain the process at Whitehouse School and how you can support your child at home. In the meantime, please support your child with learning their spellings at home every week, so they know them securely and hear them read at least three times a week.
