Welcome To Year 6

Our Year 6 teachers are Miss Emily Pryke (6EP), Mr Javier Perulero (6JP) and Miss Kawther Abbasheikh (6KA), and we are thrilled to begin this important and memorable year with you. Year 6 is a year filled with opportunity, challenge, achievement and celebration as children complete their primary school journey and prepare for the exciting next step into secondary education.

As the oldest pupils in the school, Year 6 children hold a special position within our Whitehouse community. They are the leaders of our school and role models for younger pupils, demonstrating our school values through their actions, attitudes and behaviour every day. At Whitehouse Primary, we believe that leadership is not simply about wearing a badge or holding a title, but about showing kindness, respect, responsibility and integrity in everything we do.

Throughout the year, we encourage our pupils to embrace the increased responsibilities that come with being in Year 6. Children have the opportunity to apply for a range of leadership roles, including:

  • House Captains and Vice-Captains

  • Trust Youth Parliament Representatives

  • Safety Ambassadors

  • Futures Ambassadors

  • School Councillors

  • Sports Leaders

  • Active Play Leaders

  • Library Ambassadors

These roles provide valuable opportunities for children to develop confidence, communication skills and a sense of service to others while making a positive contribution to our school community.

Academically, Year 6 is a year of challenge and achievement. Building upon everything they have learned throughout their time at Whitehouse, children are encouraged to think critically, work independently and strive for their personal best. Through our engaging curriculum and Learning Expeditions, pupils continue to deepen their knowledge, strengthen key skills and develop the resilience needed to tackle new challenges with confidence.

At Whitehouse Primary School, we place great importance on character development alongside academic success. We want our Year 6 pupils to leave us as confident, compassionate and ambitious young people who understand the importance of perseverance, teamwork and responsibility. Through a wide range of learning experiences, leadership opportunities and collaborative projects, children develop the qualities and life skills that will support them not only in secondary school but throughout their lives.

Year 6 is also a time for reflection and celebration. It is an opportunity for children to recognise how far they have come since joining Whitehouse and to take pride in the many achievements, friendships and memories they have made along the way. As they prepare for their transition to secondary school, we support them in developing the independence, organisation and self-belief needed to embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

We are incredibly proud of our Year 6 pupils and have no doubt that they will continue to be outstanding ambassadors for Whitehouse Primary School. We look forward to supporting them through this final chapter of their primary education and celebrating all they achieve throughout the year.
