A huge welcome to Year 4 from Mrs Liz Collings (4EC), Mr Tim Parris (4TP) and Mrs Amie Truscott-Towler (4AT).

We are delighted to welcome our children and families to another exciting year at Whitehouse Primary School. Year 4 is a wonderful stage of the Whitehouse journey, where children continue to grow in confidence, independence and resilience as learners. We are looking forward to a year filled with exciting Learning Expeditions, memorable experiences and plenty of opportunities for every child to shine.

Building on the strong foundations established in Year 3, Year 4 is a year of consolidation, challenge and growth. Children develop greater independence in their learning, deepen their understanding across the curriculum and become increasingly reflective about their strengths and next steps. Pupils are encouraged to think critically, ask questions, solve problems and make meaningful connections across their learning.

In Year 4, we encourage children to demonstrate our school values in all aspects of school life through kindness, respect, responsibility and perseverance. As some of the older children in Lower Key Stage 2, Year 4 pupils play an important role in setting a positive example for younger children and contributing positively to our school community.

Alongside developing knowledge and skills, we place great importance on character development. We want our children to become confident learners who are prepared to take risks, embrace challenges and learn from mistakes. Through collaborative learning, leadership opportunities and meaningful experiences, pupils develop the resilience, empathy and determination needed to succeed both now and in the future.

Year 4 is also an important stepping stone towards Upper Key Stage 2. Throughout the year, children continue to strengthen their reading, writing and mathematical skills, while developing greater independence, organisation and self-belief. We support them in becoming responsible learners who are ready for the next stage of their education and eager to continue their Whitehouse journey.

We know that our Year 4 children will astound us with their achievements and make us proud with the progress they make throughout the year.

Mr Adam Dlugoszewski is the Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Lower Key Stage 2.
