Welcome to Year 5

A very warm welcome to Year 5 from Mr Chris Tighe (5CT), Miss Lauren Bell (5LB) and Ms Vanessa Nkrumah (5VN).

We are delighted to welcome our children and families to the start of their Upper Key Stage 2 journey. Year 5 is an exciting and important stage in the Whitehouse journey, where children build upon the strong foundations established throughout Lower Key Stage 2 and begin to take on greater responsibility as some of the oldest pupils in the school.

As children move into Year 5, we encourage them to become increasingly independent, resilient and reflective learners. Our engaging and ambitious curriculum provides opportunities for pupils to deepen their knowledge, challenge their thinking and develop the skills they need to succeed both in school and beyond. Through our Learning Expeditions, children will explore fascinating themes, ask thoughtful questions, solve problems and make meaningful connections across different areas of learning.

At Whitehouse Primary School, our ethos places children at the heart of everything we do. We believe that every child should feel happy, valued and inspired to achieve their full potential. In Year 5, children are encouraged to demonstrate our school values every day through their actions, learning and relationships with others. As role models for younger members of our school community, they are expected to show kindness, responsibility, respect and integrity, while supporting others and contributing positively to school life.

Alongside academic achievement, character development is a key focus throughout Year 5. We want our pupils to develop confidence in their abilities, show perseverance when faced with challenges and embrace opportunities to step outside their comfort zones. Through collaborative learning, leadership opportunities and increasing personal responsibility, children develop the resilience, empathy and self-belief that will prepare them for future success.

Year 5 also marks the beginning of preparation for the final stage of primary school. As children progress through the year, they will strengthen their independence, organisational skills and sense of responsibility, ensuring they are well prepared for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in Year 6.

We are incredibly excited about the year ahead and look forward to celebrating the many achievements, successes and memorable experiences that our Year 5 children will enjoy. We know they will continue to make us proud as they grow into confident learners, caring friends and responsible young people.

Mr Adam Dlugoszewski is the Assistant Headteacher with responsibility for Lower Key Stage 2.
